16th. Took the cars this morning for Richmond ; we arrived here at 3. 00 P. M. Men are tired and hungry ;

Marched from depot through the principal streets to the Pemberton building, opposite Libby, got one-fourth pound bread and one-fourth pound of beef; this is the second time we got anything to eat since we were captured.

17th. Rations this morning consisted of about one-half pound of bread and four ounces of beef to each man for the next 24 hours;

They say it is a great deal worse than here, but I think it can hardly be any worse than this place.

16-ty. Dziś rano zabrał samochody do Richmond; przyjechaliśmy tutaj o 3. 00 popołudniu. Mężczyźni są zmęczeni i głodni;

Maszerując z magazynu głównymi ulicami do budynku Pemberton naprzeciwko Libby, dostałem jedną czwartą funta chleba i jedną czwartą wołowiny; to już drugi raz, kiedy dostaliśmy coś do jedzenia, odkąd zostaliśmy złapani.

17sty. Poranne meni żywnościowe składało się z pół funta chleba i czterech uncji wołowiny na każdego mężczyznę przez następne 24 godziny;

mężczyźni myślą o domu i przyjaciołach i nie mogą się doczekać zwolnienia warunkowego lub wymiany.

Mówią, że jest dużo gorzej niż tutaj, ale myślę, że nie może być gorzej niż to miejsce.
